A Weekend in St. Augustine

After a long drive from Louisville, we arrived in St. Augustine and had two days to sightsee before our journey begins.

We had a delicious brunch, then toured the Castillo de San Marcos, a 17th century fort with a drawbridge. A highlight was the shooting of the cannon. However, we figured if they did such pomp and circumstance for every cannon shot, they would never win any battle.

We continued our sightseeing throughout Old Town, touring the Cathedral Basillica and the Greek Orthodox Church.

Sunday was a grand day! One of Kelley’s best high school friends drove over from their Florida home and treated us to another delicious brunch. Thanks so much Missy! It was so great catching up with her and Eric.

We checked out the lighthouse on Anastasia Island, where we met Tonidean who wished us well on our journey and wanted to follow our blog.

We ending our day at Odd Birds, a quirky bar in Old Town, for a cocktail. That’s where we met Ken and Julie. A happy couple. Despite the journey not starting yet, we still did 38 miles cycling and 12 miles walking over the weekend.
